Tomorrow is Jon's eval for Early Intervention. I am a little scared, but also ready to find out what help he needs and if they recommend any other tests to see if there is anything further going on. I asked our pediatrician about it during his last visit and she recommended it considering some things in the birthfamily history. Her biggest concern is his speech or the lack thereof. He certainly knows how to get his point across when he wants something but he doesn't really talk. He has been saying a lot more sounds lately, but nothing that we really understand. He does say dada, nana, and mama (of course, only when he is really upset.) He knows what you are saying to him or what you tell him to do, because he does it. If you ask him who someone is, he will point to them. He does cute little things like picking up the dogs dishes when they are finished eating and putting them away. Whenever I empty a laundry basket, he will grab it and take it to the laundry room.
He also has a thing going on with his hands. He tends to hold them closed, not clenched tight, but closed. More his left hand than his right, but he is starting to use his left hand more.
He is also very unsteady, sometimes the girls just brush past him or bump him a little and he is down. But, he walks well and he even runs after the girls just fine.
On his birthday, we were in Chik-fil-a and this other mother said to her son to say hi to the baby. Well, later on, she asked me how old he was and I said that it was his birthday and he was 2. She then said to her son, oh, he's not a baby, he's older than you. Now, I'm sure she didn't mean anything by it, but I still felt bad for Jon. That little boy was so much more agile and was talking so much more than Jon does. Then we just started attending a new church a couple weeks ago. The first Sunday we were there the lady took us back to where the 2 year olds should be. The lady there was saying that he was too young to be in there until I told her that he was 2 and then she said oh, this is where he belongs. I felt bad because people don't assume he is 2 because of his delays. I did talk to an aquaintance that was in the class with him this past Sunday and she said he did fine, except when Libby went potty, he cried a little but otherwise he was fine. She said we could move him down if we want to but she didn't think it was necessary. She is one of the people in charge of the children, so I think I will take her word for it.
So, tomorrow is the day we find out. I am excited to get him help, but also dreading finding out how delayed he is. I love my little guy so much.
